Lost in 1951, Korean War Soldier to be Laid to Rest in Michigan

FORT KNOX, Ky. – The remains of U.S. Army Cpl. Richard N. Lennox, 18, will be interred Sept. 19 at Lakeside Memorial Cemetery in his hometown of Holly, Michigan. Service and interment are being coordinated by Dryer Funeral Home.

Lennox entered the service from Michigan and served in Company C, 1st Battalion, 7th Infantry Regiment, 3rd Infantry Division. On Nov. 28, 1950, he was reported missing in action after his unit was attacked by enemy forces near Sachang-ni, North Korea.

He was captured and marched to Prisoner of War Camp 1 at Changsong, where he died in late October 1951. In 1954, during Operation Glory, North Korea turned over a set of remains, designated Unknown X-14257, reportedly recovered from a prisoner of war camp.
The remains could not be identified at the time and were subsequently buried as an Unknown in the National Memorial Cemetery of the Pacific.

On June 13, 2016, DPAA personnel disinterred X-14257 and sent the remains to the DPAA laboratory for analysis. There, scientists used modern forensic techniques to identify Lennox.

The Defense POW/MIA Accounting Agency accounted for Lennox on August 7, 2025.
